Not all homeless people hold up cardboard signs. Not all people who hold cardboard signs are homeless. For instance, I saw a sign the other day that said, "Not homeless, just hungry."
The point is, people who are willing to hold a cardboard sign on a street corner have a need that is not being met, and they are appealing to the general public for help with this need. They have a message they want you to know, and then perhaps, act upon.
Sure, most of those with a cardboard sign are primarily seeking money. At least on the surface. A sign holder recently told the world that he was "seeking human kindness."  I think that's about the most truthful one I've seen. We are all seeking human kindness, in whatever form it might manifest itself. Whether that's food, money, a kind word, acceptance, forgiveness, or maybe a hot cup of coffee and a non-judgemental ear for five minutes.
Someone holding a cardboard sign wants to be heard. They have a story to tell. There is a reason that they have come to this place in their lives, and are willing to humble themselves in this way. They want your help, and they want you to know it.
Many are very clever in getting your attention. And that is what this blog is all about. Getting people's attention. Telling stories that need to be told.
This site is not to exploit those who carry signs, but instead to take their message to another platform. Our goal is to discover the needs of these individuals, and help to fulfill those needs.
